Q: I have oil all over the box and pump. Is it damaged from leaking oil?
All FJC vacuum pumps are tested during the manufacturing process requiring oil to be placed in the pump. This is normal. Therefore, even though every attempt is made to totally empty the pump some oil residue will remain and during shipping the residue may leak onto the pump. Also, the motor is sealed so it isn’t possible unless damaged in shipping or by dropping etc for the oil to leak into the pump.
Q: My pump has a burning odor and is smoking when I first turn it on?
All FJC vacuum pumps are tested during the manufacturing process requiring oil to be placed in the pump. Some oil residue may be left on the pump. This can cause the pump to have a burning odor when first used. This is normal. Therefore, even though every attempt is made to totally empty the pump some oil residue will remain and during shipping the residue may leak onto the pump causing some smoking when the pump is first used. Again, this is normal and once the smoke has burned off it will discontinue to have this.
Q: There is mist out of the exhaust port, where is the filter and where can I purchase one?
Free flowing air through the pump will cause a misting out of the exhaust port. Once the vacuum has started the misting will stop. This is normal if using for automotive use. If a pump is not hooked up to a car, it will continue to blow smoke due to the fact it is free flowing. Put both black caps on the pump(on the “T”), turn pump on and run it and see if it stops smoking. It will always smoke as long as the pump is free flowing and not drawing a vacuum. There is not a filter and as long as using for Automotive A/C use you would not need one. If for use outside of Automotive A/C please consult the internet on ways to adapt pumps.
Q: Why is my Vacuum pump oil clear?
The pump is probably overfilled and looks like it is not up to the line, when in fact, it is over full past the fill line. The oil is not intended to completely fill the pump & since it is clear it’s hard to see. Looking at oil viewing window tilt the pump backward & see if you can see the oil- remember it’s hard to see since it’s clear. If you can see the oil go to the fill line then you are ok. If not, then tilt it forward. If you see the oil but it doesn’t go to the fill line then you may need more oil.
Q: My pump isn’t pulling enough vacuum, is it defective?
Our pumps pull 29.9” of Mercury at Sea Level and is perfect for Automotive A/C Use. If you need a deeper vacuum, our pump is not made for that.
Q: How do I calibrate my scale for a more accurate reading?
Our scales cannot be calibrated.
Q: How do I test the scale:
First, Scale must be out of the case. Second, New 9 Volt battery installed. Third, Scale on, no weight, zero scale. Fourth, Add weight, make note of weight. Fifth, with weight still on scale, zero scale again, now remove weight, reading should be same as reading before except it will be a negative reading. Sixth, If scale passes this test, scale is ok.
Q: How can I convert R134a Gauge to R12?
You have to have the R12 hose to hook up , Part #6080
Q: What measurements are used on the Gauges
Our Gauges are in PSI & Bar for pressure readings and C & F for temp readings.
Q: In general, are the “aluminum block” manifold gauges considered to be higher quality than the “brass body” manifold gauges?
FJC’s gauges are both good quality gauges, However most people find the aluminum block to be of a higher quality.
Q: I broke my gauge set and need replacement parts, Do you have parts for your gauge sets?
Yes, you can purchase most of the repair items you would need for your gauge set from your distributors. We have the handle and stems, gauges, lenses, hoses and hose seal repair kits etc. If you download our catalog you will see a listing for all these items on the pages with the gauge sets pictured.
Q: Do you have available replacement “O” rings for r-134 manifold hoses?
Part #s 4008 & 6046 are the parts you need.
Q: Are the booster Cables Copper?
Our Cables our Aluminum Copper clad.
Q: What is the difference between the different flushes FJC offers?
We recommend using Flush Kit #2710 with all our flushes. Most often technicians want the fastest drying flush possible, this would be our Extreme Klean, #2400 and #2401. The next fastest evaporating flush would be the Kwik Klean, #2405 and #2406. FJC A/C Flush solvent #2032 and #2128 is a non-evaporating flush designed to clean and leave a slight residue that will mix with the new oil to enhance the system.
Q: Do you have a dye for Hybrid Vehicles?
All FJC A/C Dyes are approved for use in Hybrid Vehicles. We do not have anything in our dye that can cause harm to the electronic compressors.
Q: Do you sell double end capped PAG oil?
Our PAG would not be considered as double end capped since we use natural oils.
