The mobile air conditioning industry has experienced extensive changes. The transformation from R12 to R134a has had a tremendous impact on dealers and consumers. Estimates show that due to the limited supply of R12 over 100 million vehicles may have to be retrofitted from R12 to R134a. We expect there will be many opportunities for vehicles to be retrofitted through 2004. It is important that the dealer be able to provide a retrofit system with the performance and life expectancy equal to the original R12 system.

FJC reviewed A/C manufacturers publications and found that detailed information on retrofitting from R12 to R134a was not available. Most companies appear to be waiting for others to provide this information. Instead of waiting, FJC initiated an aggressive research and development program. Our goals were three fold; one was to develop quality products, that when used would provide the same proficient results no matter what the experience level of the dealer. The true test of a product is when anyone using it can obtain the same results. FJC tests show that any technician from the beginner to the most experienced can achieve the same efficient results. The second was to ensure effectiveness under actual operating conditions. FJC not only tested their products in the laboratory, but also in the field. We believe that "real world" testing is the only way to establish the credibility of a product. The third goal was that our products should be environmentally safe.

All products produced by FJC are environmentally safe, biodegradable, non hazardous and non toxic. FJC provides a manual containing information required to retrofit mobile air conditioning systems from R12 to R134a. This manual covers virtually every vehicle produced since 1960. Some vehicles when retrofitted will perform better than others, and some vehicles will require more extensive service.

The results of our research and development program show that when retrofitted, most air conditioning systems will cool as well as they did with R12 and last just as long. Any dealer capable of servicing R12 air conditioning systems can follow the directions contained in the manual and retrofit to R134a with confidence.*
